BNP activist killed, 3 hurt in factional clash

A BNP activist was killed and three others were injured in a factional clash in Pabna yesterday.
The incident occurred at Betepara in Hemayetpur under Sadar upazila, police said.
Jalal Uddin, 40, a resident of Kazipara village and an activist of the Hemayetpur union unit of BNP, succumbed to his injuries on the way to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Pabna Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdus Salam said the clash broke out between the supporters of Muntaz Ali, a former UP chairman and a member of the BNP’s upazila unit, and Hasem Ali, a former secretary of the union unit, over establishing supremacy.
Additional police personnel were deployed in the area to maintain order, said the OC, adding that an investigation into the incident was underway.
Contacted, Masud Khandakar, member secretary of the Pabna district unit BNP convening committee, said he was not fully aware of the incident.
“We are looking into the matter. If any BNP activist is found guilty, they will face action,” he added.
